Composing the perfect setup: an Oaky-experts Q&A

Composing the perfect setup: an Oaky-experts Q&A

Arranging your workspace is a topic worth giving some thought to, whether you work at your corporate headquarters or in the comfort of your own home. By skillfully optimizing and customizing your office, you can work more efficiently and creatively. We've been noticing a growing awareness of the important role space plays in life - we get a lot of questions about both our products and workspace organization. That's why today, in cooperation with our home office experts, we've prepared a short Q&A.

What is the maximum load of an adjustable desk (Standing Desk)?

Thanks to its sturdy construction, consisting of a wooden top and a steel frame, an adjustable desk can bear as much as 70 kg.

What is the difference between Standing Pro and Touch desks?

We used two different steel frames and height adjustment systems in Standing Desk Pro and Touch adjustable desks. As a result, the desks differ slightly in height range, desktop elevation and lowering speed, as well as noise level. The key difference, however, is the control panels: AOKE and LINAK. If you want to learn more about the differences between Pro and Touch desks, go to our blog post.

Do adjustable desks use a lot of electricity?

No. An adjustable desk consumes an average of 150-200 watts when elevating or lowering the top. In standby mode, power consumption is only about 0.1 watts.

Do you make custom desk designs (e.g., L-shaped, with an unusual cable grommet, with a third leg for stability support)?

Yes, we are capable of fulfilling various custom designs - we can make (almost) anything out of wood. If you dream of a desk designed specifically for you, call us (+48 797 217 197) or email (contact@oakywood.shop) to discuss the details.

Does the desk come with an under-desk organizer?

Under-desk cable organizers (in Grid or Tray versions) are sold separately. But you can take advantage of our Standing Desk Pro or Standing Desk Touch product bundles, where, in addition to your desk, you’ll find an organizer and cable grommet. This way you’ll pay less than if you ordered them separately.

What is the difference between solid wood and veneer?

Solid wood products, to put it simply, are made from parts of a wooden log - cut and shaped by us. This material guarantees exceptional durability and strength. Veneer, on the other hand, is a material made of plywood, to which a thinner layer of wood is glued. It is lighter and cheaper than solid wood, but you must also take into account the fact that it may be slightly more susceptible to mechanical damage and excess moisture.

What is the distance between the desk shelf’s legs?

In the standard size, the distance between the steel legs of the desk shelf is 72 cm. In the non-standard size, subtract 33 cm from the total length of the shelf (14 cm on each side + leg width: 2.5 cm).

Can the headphones stand with a built-in charger also charge headphones?

Yes, the charger built into the base of the 2-in-1 headphone stand allows you to charge both phones and headphones, provided they support the QI standard. In order to charge, the headphones must be placed on the wooden base (they don't charge when hung on the metal holder).

What type of cables do you use for docking stations and wireless chargers?

For wireless chargers, it's a USB-C to USB-C cable, while docking stations use the type selected by the customer while placing the order on one side, and USB-C on the other.

The color of the wood has faded over time. How can I refresh it to regain its original appearance?

If the wood looks dry or faded, rub it with 240-grit sandpaper, then apply a coat of wood oil, preferably clear. To make things easier, use our ready-to-use Wood Maintenance Kit.

Is a felt and cork desk mat suitable for gaming?

Yes, a felt and cork desk mat is a good option for gamers. Our desk mats are made of natural merino wool felt, which helps dampen mouse and keyboard noises and is excellent at absorbing moisture. It is also a breathable, non-toxic material.

How to choose a monitor and laptop stand?

It all depends on your individual needs. If you use a single monitor, the best solution will be a wooden Monitor Stand. It takes up little space and raises the monitor to the optimal ergonomic height. For a larger number of devices, we recommend a desk shelf: in standard size, it will easily accommodate 2 large monitors. You can adjust its dimensions in our 3D configurator.

When it comes to your laptop, the solution is simple: our wooden Laptop Stand will work perfectly.

Does the MagSafe iPhone Stand kit include a MagSafe charger?

No, we do not sell Apple products. The MagSafe iPhone Stand set, as well as other MagSafe series products, do not include chargers. We do, however, offer the MagSafe Puck, an accessory that can be placed in the charger slot if you want to use accessories from the MagSafe collection to store and display your iPhone.

How to optimize your desk space?

If you wish to streamline your desk organization and optimize your space, there are a couple of accessories for you to use. A desk shelf or monitor or laptop stand will help structure the space and provide more storage. Complement the shelf with modular drawers, which make it much easier to stay organized.

For storing smaller items you might want to keep on hand and in sight at all times, our wooden trays and OakyBlocks organizers, fitted with magnets that connect to form any configuration, will work best.

Another important thing in organizing your workspace is designating a permanent place to charge your phone - our docking stations, wireless chargers and accessories from the MagSafe collection can help you with that. They guarantee both the convenience of charging your phone, as well as its comfortable use and safe storage.

Each day, I deal with tasks in various fields: from supporting our clients by email and phone, through working with business partners, to administrative and accounting matters. I can't complain about boredom! :)

My favorite Oakywood products are the felt and cork desk mat, Slim wireless charger, and Catchall Tray. They make my home office functional and cozy at the same time.

I think picking our OakyBlocks is a good first step to organizing your work space. Everyone can personalize them according to their own needs and thus find a safe space for small items on their desk.

Mateusz

I take care of a little bit of everything here at Oakywood ;). I manage the company's organizational structure and strategy, and I'm also heavily involved in design and production.

Sometimes I also advise our clients on workspace design. My favorite Oakywood products are: Standing Desk Pro, Dual Laptop Dock, and Magsafe iPhone Stand. On the other hand, for those who are just starting to set up a home office and don't have any of our products, I recommend the Standing Desk Shelf for a good start.

Patryk

Every morning I review messages from our customers and sort them into different categories: complaints, shipping problems and technical issues. I also keep in touch with customers to solve their problems and advise them on how to organize their workspace.

As for favorite products, I'm not objective on this issue, because I like every single one of our products. The Desk Shelf and MagSafe holders are a big help for me. I use the MagSafe Desk Shelf Mount with charger and the MagSafe iPhone Stand in the form of a magnetic stand together with the Puck. I also have some Catchall Trays and OakyBlocks to keep my desk organized.

For those who don't already have Oakywood products, I would recommend a desk shelf and a drawer set to start with. This set will let you significantly improve the ergonomics of your work and the organization of your desk space.
